because the sun sets at such a particular angle
against the big beautiful
blue sky

i’ve been looking for that unity i was promised at such a young age
thinking back to that old music i used to play

things i didn’t realize that i missed
the lawnmower's shake on my wrists
a doused bonfire’s hiss
raking up the leaves before i head down to the haunt
that seasons so long
with an identical yawn

of course i still love the friends
those ones i still mention
but somehow can’t keep up with

it’s always “i’m sorry we hangout less”
this week yes maybe next
i forgot to send you a text

the people who come to mind
when the light
wakes me up at the dawn
will i remember their faces?
